About Louis Storath
I'm Louis, a FIFO worker based in Perth, Western Australia. This site and the guide come from doing the job, not writing about it from a distance.

Starting from zero
I went through the whole thing myself: the visa process, landing in a new country with big plans and a long list of unanswered questions, the first weeks sorting out the basics, and the frustration of looking for that first contract.
None of it is complicated once you've done it. From the outside, it's just hard to see the order things need to happen in.
The work
I work as a scaffolder on FIFO rosters. When it came to tickets I chose the scaffolding path and did my tickets in Perth. The days are long and physical, the sites are remote, and the trade-off is real pay and long blocks of time off.
The first few rosters were the hardest part. The isolation hits differently when you're far from home and everything is new. It does get easier once you build a routine and get to know people on site.
Why the guide exists
I kept answering the same questions for people trying to get started, so I wrote it all down in the order it's actually needed. The guide is that, in detail. This website is the free version of the overview.
If you're serious about FIFO and stuck on a step, you can message me directly. I'd rather point you the right way than have you lose a month.

Instagram direct messages are always open, and that's the fastest way to reach me. Email works too.
